Meegan, Hyland & Coulter Smash Irish Records at US Open

31st July 2013 Ireland’s swimmers got off to great start at the US Open in Irvine, California yesterday with three new National  records from the 12 strong team. Brendan Hyland was first up in the 200m Butterfly, his main event. The 18 year old made it out of the morning heats and into the afternoon B final in a time of 1:59.98, just outside his Irish Record of 1:59.92 set at the European Junior Swimming Championships in July 2012. Ireland represented at US Open

Twelve Irish swimmers will represent Ireland at the US Open in Irvine, California, starting today. The 12 strong team includes Irish record holders Shauna O’Brien, Bethany Carson, Curtis Coulter, Michael Dawson, Brendan Hyland and World University Games finalist Andrew Meegan. Doyle 11th in World Championship Semi-Final

29th July 2013 Fiona Doyle has finished 11th overall  in the 100m Breaststroke at the FINA Swimming World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Doyle was the 12th fastest qualifier going into the final in a time of 1:07.88 and swam a faster time of 1:07.81 in the semi-final to place 7th but was just off her best time of 1:07.66 which won her a Silver medal at the World University Games earlier this month. “It wasn’t as good as I was [...]

Irish Swimmers Gear Up for World Championships in Barcelona

26th July 2013 Three of Ireland’s top swimmers are gearing up for the FINA World Swimming Championships  in Barcelona starting this Sunday (28th July). The team of Barry Murphy, Fiona Doyle and Sycerika McMahon are already based in Barcelona ahead of the first day of racing at the Palau Sant Jordi, one of the main venues for the 1992 Olympic Games. Bryan 16th at World Championships in Barcelona

22nd July 2013 Ireland’s Chris Bryan has finished 16th at the FINA Open Water  10K World Championships in Barcelona. Bryan made a good start quickly settling into the leading pack of 25 of the  65 swimmers, finishing the first lap of the 2.5 Kilometre course in 15th place just 8 seconds behind the leader. The Clare man moved up the rankings to 12th at the halfway mark after 55 minutes of swimming just 5 seconds behind the leader Rhys Maidstone-Hodson [...]

Chris Bryan set to take on World’s Best in Barcelona

20th July 2013 Ireland’s Chris Bryan will swim at the FINA World Open Water Championships this Monday 22nd July at the Moll De La Fusta in Barcelona. Competitors will have to swim inside a 2.5 kilometre circuit in the Barcelona harbour venue. The 23 year old from Clare, who has travelled straight to Barcelona from the World University Games in Russia where he finished 7th overall on Wednesday last, was 33rd in the 10K race at the last FINA Open [...]

Bryan 7th in 10K Swim at World University Games

Open Water swimmer Chris Bryan has finished 7th at the World University Games 10K swim in Kazan, Russia. The Ennis man swam the 10 Kilometre course at Lake Middle Kaban in 1 hour, 57 minutes and two seconds. Bryan was with the leading pack throughout the race, leading himself at 5 Kilometres and then again with 1500m to go, but the 24 year old was unable to keep with the finishing pack at the finish in what were very hot [...]

Silver Medal for Fiona Doyle at World University Games

Fiona Doyle has won a Silver medal at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia. Following the semi-final last night Doyle was the fourth fastest qualifier going into this afternoon’s Final, her semi-final time of 1:08.43 just off her personal best and Irish Senior Record of 1:08.23. Murphy 2nd in France

World Championship contender Barry Murphy has finished second in the 50m Breaststroke A Final at the French Open in Vichy, France.  Murphy’s time of 27.88 secured him second place following a prelim swim of 28.09 qualifying him 4th into the evening Final. South Africa’s Giulio Zorzi was the  winner of the Final in 27.66 with Frenchman Giacomo Perez Dotoma in third touching in 27.90.
