McNamara Qualifies for Europeans on Final Day of Swimming Championships

Sixteen year old Dearbhail McNamara won the Irish Title in the 200m Breaststroke in a European Senior Championships qualification time on the final day of swimming at the Irish National Championships in Dublin. McNamara, from Westport Swimming Club, had qualified earlier this year for the European Junior Championships and swam a lifetime best of 2:32.95 in tonight’s final to make the senior time and will be Ireland’s youngest squad member on the team of eight swimmers. Neamt, Hyland Claim Third National Titles in Dublin

Antoinette Neamt and Brendan Hyland claimed third National Titles each tonight on Day 3 of the Irish Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre (NAC) in Dublin. 13 year old Neamt who trains at Swim Ireland’s Performance Centre at the NAC swam to 400m Freestyle Gold in a personal best time of 4:19.03 tonight to add to the 200m and 800m titles she has already won this weekend. Houghton Smashes 50m Butterfly Record

Swim Ireland’s Irish Long Course National Championships continued today at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. The four day event see’s Ireland’s top swimmers compete for national titles across 34 Individual and 6 team events. Irish swimmers were in impressive form on the opening night of the Irish Long Course National Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. Irish National Championships Preview

Swim Ireland’s Irish Long Course National Championships kick off this Thursday 24th April at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin where over 300 swimmers from 63 clubs will compete over 4 days of competition. The championships will serve as a final opportunity for swimmers to qualify for Summer International Meets. 2014 will see International competition focus on Europe with European Open Water and Swimming Championships taking place in Berlin in August. Swim Ireland Athletes, Coaches & Volunteers Honoured in Limerick

Fiona Doyle was last night named High Performance Athlete of the Year at the Swim Ireland Annual Awards in the Strand Hotel, Limerick.  Doyle, who is originally from Limerick but based at the University of Calgary in Canada, had an outstanding year in 2013. She won a silver medal at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia in July, Irelands first World swimming medal in over 20 years.
