McSharry Smashes Irish Record to Claim Silver in Israel

Mona McSharry had the swim of her life in the 200m Breaststroke Final at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Israel today. The 16-year-old from Sligo shaved almost two seconds off her best time to claim Silver in a new Irish Senior Record of 2:27.44. Reid Swims Best Time on Day 3 in Israel

Rebecca Reid got day 3 of the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships for Ireland today as the Ards swimmer swam a best time of 30.26 to win her heat of the 50m Backstroke. Swimming in the fastest heat of the 200m Freestyle Rachel Bethel concluded her championships with a swim of 2:04.32 to place 24th overall. Swimmers Impress at Distance Events on Opening day of IAGD2

The Irish Age Groups Division 2 Championships kicked off at UL Arena, Limerick today with some impressive swims in the Girls 800m Freestyle and Boys 1,500m Freestyle. Zara Byrne of Sundays Well (SWSC) picked up the first medal of the evening when she touched for Gold (11:15.93) in the 10&Under 800m freestyle.  Longford’s Rionagh McCormack won Silver on (12:01.78). Following a Gold medal win in the 50m Breaststroke last night Mona McSharry continued her impressive form at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Israel today to make a second Breaststroke Final. McSharry, swimming in the 200m Breaststroke, eased through preliminaries winning her heat in 2:29.63 and secured her place in this evening’s semi-final in third place overall. McSharry Through to 200m Breaststroke Semi-Final in Israel

Following a Gold medal win in the 50m Breaststroke last night Mona McSharry continued her impressive form in the 200m event this morning. McSharry won heat 5 of the preliminaries in 2:29.63 to secure her place in this evening’s semi-final in third place overall. Just a second separates the top three currently. Magic Mona Crowned European Junior Champion

Ireland’s Mona McSharry has won Gold and is crowned 50m Breaststroke European Junior Champion following a 31.38 second swim at the European Junior Championships in Israel this afternoon. After an Irish Junior Record swim of 31.14 in this morning’s heat the Marlins (Ballyshannon) swimmer progressed from the semi-final to final with a new Irish Senior Record of 30.91 seconds, breaking Fiona Doyle’s 2013 record of 30.93 seconds.  This afternoon’s Final then saw the 16-year-old claim her first major Gold medal […]

Irish Age Group Championships Division 2 kick off at UL Sport

Swim Ireland’s Irish Age Group Championships Division 2 start tomorrow at UL Sport Arena in Limerick. A record number 731 swimmers from 89 clubs across Ireland will compete over 4 days of competition starting with the distance 800m for girls and 1500m for boys on Thursday. Competition will run until Sunday (2nd July) with 2,401 individual and 118 relay swims expected  across the weekend. We’ll have daily reports from Thursday to Sunday. Mona McSharry an Ellen Walshe are both through to semi-finals in their respective events on the opening day of competition at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Netanya, Israel. Irish Juniors Ready to Take on Europe

An 8 strong Irish swimming team will begin competition from tomorrow (Wednesday), at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships.  The team, led by Andy Reid as head coach and assisted by Davy Johnston (Ards ASC), will compete from the 28th June to the 2nd July at the Wingate Institute in Netanya, Israel. Irish Swimmers Competing at Mare Nostrum & Sette Colli

Best of luck to our team of 14 Irish athletes who departed for Canet-en-Roussillon today and are set to compete at the third leg of the Mare Nostrum tour tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday. The 14 swimmers will then travel to Rome to complete a four day training camp ahead of the Sette Colli Meet.
