Swim for a Mile Huge Success

Swim Ireland’s second annual Swim for a Mile Event took place last week from May 18th – 22nd across 80 pools nationwide. Over 1,300 swimmers completed the mile over 5 days, many of whom started out only swimming 1 length. The event was run in 2015 in conjunction with The Irish Sports Council, The Coca Cola Thank You Fund, Ireland Active, Today FM, The Irish Times and Precision Timing. South Africa Win Women’s 8 Nations

Ireland Water Polo had the pleasure of hosting this year’s Women’s 8 Nations Cup, in the National Aquatic Centre Dublin. Teams from Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Scotland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and South Africa joined Ireland for what was some outstanding International Polo. The Czech and South African teams started very strong; leaving no doubts they were here to win by putting up big scores in both of their games. Aquatic Community Honoured at Swim Ireland Awards

Fiona Doyle was last night named High Performance Athlete of the Year at the Swim Ireland Annual Awards in the Citywest Hotel, Saggart.  Doyle, who is originally from Limerick but based at the University of Calgary in Canada, had an outstanding year in 2014 and won the award based on her performances, in particular her 50m Breaststroke Final at the European Championships in Berlin. Records Tumble on Day 3 of Irish Championships

Shauna O’Brien has broken the Irish Senior 100m Butterfly Record on the penultimate day of competition at the Irish Open Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. American’s Dominate Day 2 of Irish Swimming Championships

It was a clean sweep across all six individual finals and the two relays for the American swimmers from the National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) on the second day of competition at the Irish Open Swimming Championships. Alex Murphy Secures Worlds QT on Opening Day of Irish Swimming Championships

Alex Murphy of UCD Swimming will join Fiona Doyle, Sycerika McMahon and Chris Bryan on the Irish team for the World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia this Summer following a 27.56 second winning swim in the 50m Breaststroke Final on the first day of competition at the Irish Open Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre. Irish Open Swimming Championships Preview

The Irish Open Swimming Championships will take place in the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown from Thursday 30th April to Sunday 3rd May, with a host of Irish and International swimmers taking to the pool. Over 350 swimmers from 60 clubs including a contingent of 51 from the USA and 8 senior internationals from Denmark will compete in 34 individual and 6 team events across four days of competition.
