Ireland’s Barry Murphy has finished 12th in the 50m Breaststroke semi-final at the European Championships in Berlin missing out on the Final by just two tenths of a second in an event where a new World Record was set by Great Britain’s Adam Peaty. Ireland’s Barry Murphy has advanced to the European Championships 50m Breaststroke semi-finals on the fifth day of competition at the Europa-Sportpark in Berlin, Germany. No Progress for McMahon & Doyle in 200m Breaststroke in Berlin

Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon and Fiona Doyle could not progress from the heats of the 200m Breaststroke on the fourth day of competition at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin. McMahon posted the faster time of the two touching in 2:31.81 to finish 6th in her heat and 21st overall. Doyle clocked a time of 2:32.23 to finish 23rd overall. McMahon 12th at European Championships in Medley Semi-Final

Sycerika McMahon took over a second off her heat time from this morning to finish 12th overall in the 200m Individual Medley semi-finals at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin today. Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon has qualified for the semi-final of the 200m Individual Medley (IM) at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany. Ireland’s Fiona Doyle has finished 13th overall in the 100m Breaststroke semi-final on the second day of competition at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin. Doyle had qualified for this evening’s semi-final in 10th place from this morning’s heats in a time of 1:08.77, over a second off her personal best time of 1:07.66 which won her Silver at the World University Games in 2013. Fiona Doyle has secured a place in the 100m Breaststroke Semi-Final following this morning’s heats at the LEN European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany. Swimming in heat 3 of 5 Doyle swam a solid 1:08.77 to finish 4th in the heat. Four Irish swimmers got their European Championships campaign underway on the first day of competition at the Velodrome in Berlin today. Barry Murphy, Nicholas Quinn, Dan Sweeney and Brendan Hyland were all in action prior to competing in their main events later this week. Ireland Junior Ladies Win 5 Nations Silver

The Irish Junior Ladies Water Polo team traveled to Thun, Switzerland last weekend for the 5 Nations Water Polo tournament. Coach Tadhg Murphy, assistant coach Aideen Conway and team manager Debbie Heery took 15 players to compete with Denmark, Scotland, Czech Republic, and host nation Switzerland. Ireland had a fantastic first day seeing off Scotland 18-6 to start their tournament and then battled with Switzerland just hours later to come out on top 11-9 on the final whistle. RIP Ernest “Square” McCartney

Swim Ireland are saddened to learn of the passing of swimming and water polo star of the 1940′s and 1950′s Ernest “Square” McCartney(Wellington). Ernest attended the 1948 Olympic Games in London and was honoured by Swim Ireland in 2011 and by the Olympic Council of Ireland in 2012 for competing in the Games. Deepest sympathy is extended to his family and friends.
