McSharry Shines on Final Night of Swimming Championships

Mona McSharry was the star on the final night of the Irish Open Swimming Championships as she picked up titles in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle. McSharry, who trains at Donegal’s Ballyshannon Marlins, had already won the 50m and 100m Breaststroke Irish titles this weekend. McSharry, UCD Break Irish Records on Penultimate Night of Swimming Championships

Irish swimmers continued to impress on the penultimate night of racing at the Irish Open Championships at the National Aquatic Centre. Saturday night’s final event had the crowd on their feet as Conor Ferguson led off the relay hoping to post a time that could qualify them for the Olympic Games. Ferguson Edges Closer to Olympic Qualification

Conor Ferguson came agonisingly close to the FINA Olympic A time in winning tonight’s 100m Backstroke Final on the second day of competition at the Irish Open Swimming Championships. The 16 year old clocked 54.41, a new Irish Senior Record, but was just .05 of a second shy of the required Olympic qualification time of 54.36. Quinn, UCD Set Irish Records on Opening Day of Swimming Championships

Swim Ireland’s Irish Open Swimming Championships kicked off at Dublin’s National Aquatic Centre today with 10 National Titles up for grabs on the first day of competition.   Gerry Quinn set a new Irish Junior Record in the 200m Freestyle adding to the 100m Record he set at the Dave McCullagh Meet in March. Swimmers Aim to Secure Olympic & European Qualification Spots

Swim Ireland’s Irish Open Swimming Championships kick of this Thursday, 28th April, with Irish swimmers still on the hunt for Olympic and European qualification times. 400 swimmers from 73 clubs including 17 foreign clubs will compete across four days of competition for national titles in 34 individual and 6 team events. Team Announced to Represent Ireland at IPC Swimming Championships

Six extremely talented swimmers will take to the water in Funchal, Portugal, from May 1st to May 7th to represent Ireland at the IPC Swimming European Open Championships it was revealed today. The Irish team, which is sponsored by Allianz, is made up of World Championship bronze medallist and double Paralympian, Ellen Keane along with fellow London Paralympians, James Scully and Jonathan McGrath. Nicholas Quinn Makes Olympic Time in Eindhoven

Nicholas Quinn will join Fiona Doyle, Shane Ryan and Oliver Dingley in going forward for selection for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games having gone under the FINA (International Swimming Federation) Olympic A time in Eindhoven tonight. Quinn swam an impressive 2:11.24 in the 200m Breaststroke, almost half a second under the qualification time of 2:11.66. Masters Swimmers Impress in GB and Palma

Congratulations to all of the Irish Masters who competed at GB Nationals and in Palma last weekend. The team at the British Masters in Sheffield took home a huge haul of medals including  16 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals as well as setting 14 new Irish records (STR). In Palma, there were 30 from Aer Lingus and another 30 from Sundays Well/Cork/Sandycove Island so plenty of Irish support. Results below:
