Swim Ulster has announced that Danske Bank will be the sole sponsor of the first swimming gala to take place at Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure complex.
The junior gala will be held from the 24th-26th May and will see nearly 400 swimmers from all over Ulster compete in the new 50m pool for the first time with swims from Portaferry Olympian Sycerika Mc Mahon, Paralympian Gold Medal winner Bethany Firth and Newry Paralympian Laurence Mc Givern.
Swim Ulster Press Officer Mark Beattie commented, “It is fantastic for us as a governing body to have Danske Bank come on board to support the first Long Course Swimming Gala to be held in Northern Ireland. We really appreciate the support and recognition of this new phase in Ulster swimming’’
Karen McRoberts, Branch Manager Danske Bank Bangor said: “This is the first time Danske Bank has been involved at this level in swimming and reflects the growing popularity of the sport and investment in new facilities. Support for youth sport is very important to us and we are already heavily involved in schools’ rugby and GAA. Extending into swimming is a new venture and we look forward to a great weekend of competition in this fantastic new facility.”
There is another connection for both parties as Swim Ulster will be hosting the indoor swimming events for the World Police & Fire Games 2013 and Danske Bank is one of the Platinum sponsors of the games.
Bangor Aurora Aquatics & Leisure Complex opened its doors in March and boasts Northern Ireland’s first 50m international standard swimming pool, as well as a range of state-of-the-art leisure facilities.
