MONA MCSHARRY TO BE THE IRISH FLAG BEARER AT THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE EUROPEAN GAMES

The Olympic Council of Ireland has chosen 14 year old Mona McSharry from Co. Sligo as the Irish flag bearer at the Closing Ceremony in Baku’s National Stadium tomorrow (Sun June 28). Mona, who swims with Ballyshannon S.C., is the youngest member of Team Ireland and will join flag bearers from 50 nations at what is expected to be a spectacular Closing Event extravaganza in Azerbaijan. Great Atmosphere as Young Swimmers Impress on Day 2 of Age Group Championships

Press Release - Irish Age Groups Division Day 2 – 26th June 2015 Competition continued in a great atmosphere today at Swim Irelands Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships  UL Sport today. The four day competition sees over 500 swimmers aged 9-18 compete over 4 days of competition. Brown & Moore Swim Best Times in Baku

Despite a number of personal best swims from Irish swimmers at the European Games in Baku, there was no progression to the Finals on day four of the competition in the Azeri capital. Danielle Hill was the highest placed Irish swimmer this morning as she finished 21st overall in the 100m Backstroke, she missed out on a place in the semi-final by just .6 of a second. A final, two semi-finals, two Irish Junior Records and a World Junior Championships qualification saw Ireland’s swimmers complete their best day so far at the Baku Aquatics Centre on day three of competition at the European Games in Azerbaijan. 5 Irish Swimmers Announced on Commonwealth Youth Games Squad

Five Irish Swimmers were announced today by the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council to represent Northern Ireland at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa in September. Danielle Hill, Rachel Bethel, Emma Reid and James Brown who are all currently competing at the European Games in Baku along with Conor Ferguson who is preparing for European Youth Olympic Games were selected for the team that will compete from the 5th – 11th September. Ireland Relay into European Final; Bethel and Reid Advance to Semi’s

Team Ireland swimmers had an exciting morning in the pool on Day 3 of the European Games in Baku. As the Women’s Medley Relay qualified for the Final both Rachel Bethel and Emma Reid progressed to semi-final’s in their events. James Brown has finished in 16th place overall in the semi-final of the 200m Individual Medley at the European Games in Baku. Ireland’s James Brown has progressed to the semi-final in the 200m Individual Medley on the second day of competition at the European Games in the Baku Aquatics Centre. Ireland’s Mona McSharry and Emma Reid were both in semi-final action on the opening day of competition at the European Games in Baku after they qualified form this morning heats in the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Butterfly.
