National Swim Day – 1st February 2014

For the first time ever, Swim Ireland is teaming up with RTÉ’s Operation Transformation to bring ‘National Swim Day’ to the public on Saturday 1 February. Taking part is easy, with over 60 local swimming pools around Ireland opening their doors to offer free swim sessions on the day. Chris Bryan to Compete at FINA 10K Marathon Swim in Argentina

Ireland’s Chris Bryan travels to Argentina this week to compete at the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup. Competition will take place in Saturday (5pm Irish time) in the Rio Negro River in the Patagonia Region of Argentina with 37 competitors taking part including Gold and Silver medallists from the FINA Open Water World Championships 10K event in 2013; Spyridon Gianniotis (Greece) and Thomas Lurz (Germany). RIP Marian Fenton

It is with great sadness that we learned yesterday of the passing of Marian Fenton. Marian has had a lifelong involvement with Irish Swimming from swimming as a youngster to teaching, tutoring and Team Management and much more. She was a wonderful woman who always had a smile on her face and gave so much to Irish Swimming and everyone involved. Many Irish swimmers will have fond memories of trips away with her. Barry Murphy Wins European Breaststroke Bronze

Barry Murphy has won a Bronze medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Herning, Denmark. The 28 year old follows Grainne Murphy, Melanie Nocher and Sycerika McMahon as the fourth medallist for Ireland at these championships in four years.
