Ferguson Smashes 200m Backstroke Record

 Conor Ferguson became the first Irish Junior to break the 2 minute barrier in the 200m Backstroke on the first night of competition at the Irish Short Course (25m) National Championships in Lisburn. Irish Short Course Championships Preview

The spotlight will be on Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn this weekend for the Irish National Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships with Ireland’s top swimmers competing for national titles. Bangor & UCD Break Relay Records

Congratulations to Bangor ASC and UCD Swimming Cub who broke Irish Club Relay Records last month. Bangor ASC Men set a new 4x50m Medley standard when Jordan Sloan (Back), Jamie Graham (Breast), Scott Dennis (Fly) and David Thompson (Free) combined for a time of 1:41.72 at the War Memorial Gala in Lisburn. Irish Junior Record for Conor Ferguson at Ulster Championshsips

NEW IRISH RECORD! Congratulations to Larne’s Conor Ferguson on setting a new Irish Junior 200m Backstroke SC Record of 2:00.55 at Ulster SC over the weekend! The previous record of 2:00.69 was held by Shane Ahern since 2005. We’ll be watching out to see if Conor can lower the record again at Irish SC Nationals in just under 2 weeks time!

Doyle and McMahon Impress in Canada and Texas

Ireland’s Fiona Doyle and Sycerika McMahon put in impressive performances at university competitions over the weekend. Well done to Fiona Doyle who won 2 Gold Medals and 2 Bronze at the Canada West Swimming Intervarsity Championships (SC) over the weekend. Fiona took Gold in the 50m Breaststroke in 31.04 seconds, a new meet record on day 1. She continued her good form with a second Gold in the 100m Breaststroke (1:07.34) on day 2. Swim Ireland Win €25,000 from 2015 Coca Cola Thank You Fund

Swim Ireland are delighted to receive €25,000 from the Coca Cola Thank You Fund for the 2015 Swim for a Mile Programme. Coca Cola were so impressed with the event in 2014 that following our submission and presentation for the 2015 Thank You Fund we are once again selected as winners of the fund along with four other organisations. RECORD ALERT! Hyland Sets New 200m Butterfly Mark

RECORD ALERT! Well done to Brendan Hyland who continued his record breaking ways last weekend with a new IRISH SENIOR RECORD in the 200m Butterfly (SC) at the Coast Grand Prix in Aberdeen, Scotland. Having set a new mark of 1:58.36 at the Dutch Open in Eindhoven the previous week Brendan swam 1:57.89 to claim the siIver medal. We’re looking forward to seeing Brendan continue his great form at the Irish SC Nationals in December (12th-14th).

Weekend Roundup: McMahon & Bryan Compete Abroad; Celtic Masters take place at NAC

Irish swimmers impressed over the weekend with some fantastic results from Ireland and abroad. Chris Bryan completed his season with a 12th place finish at the FINA Open Water 10K World Cup in Hong Kong. Having touched in 14th in the China event last week, Chris went 2 places better, finishing in 12th place in 1 hour, 56 minutes and 21 seconds, less than 10 seconds behind the winner Christian Reichert of Germany (1:56.12).
