This year will see the continuation of the Special Membership category. Until now, to compete in any event held by or under the auspices of Swim Ireland you are required to be a Club Member. The new Special Membership category will allow individuals the opportunity to become a Swim Ireland member and compete in specific events previously only open to club members. To compete in any of these races you MUST enter the race separately through the race organiser.
Races open to Special Members
Most Open Water Races are open to Special Members, but please be aware that not all races are open to Special Membership, such as the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Race and Dublin City Liffey Swim so you will need to check with race organisers for sign up procedures. .

Masters Swimming Galas
Masters swimming clubs have made their galas open to Special Members with the exception of the National short course and long course gala. For full gala details please go to the Masters page
Who needs special membership?
Any individual wishing to compete in a sanctioned Swim Ireland event who is not a Club Member of SI will need to become a Special Member.
How do I become a member?
To sign up for Special Membership click the sign up button and follow the easy steps. Once you have completed the online form and made payment, your membership card will be posted to you. On race day, at registration you will be required to produce a printed membership card with valid ID to take part in any event.
*Please note that in order to guarantee your Special Membership is processed in time for racing on the coming weekend your online payment must be completed by Tuesday midnight.
What competitions can I compete in?
Swim Ireland has been working with a range of race organisers to give members a variety of events to take part in. The list is posted above. For 2016 Swim Ireland will be working to develop a more extensive list of events for Special Members to attend.
What do I get?
Special membership gives the individual the following:
- Annual membership to participate in a variety of SI races/galas
- Swim Ireland Insurance when competing in SI sanctioned events
When does the Special Membership run from?
The Swim Ireland Special Membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st. Therefore, regardless of when you purchase your membership, your membership will be valid until December 31st of the year in which you make the purchase.
What does a Special Membership cost?
The price for a Special Membership is €25.
