Exciting Night in Limerick as IAGD2’s continue!

Day 2 of Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships started with some impressive performances from the girl and boys in the 400m Individual Medley. In the girls events Dolphins Cara McCormack took Gold in the 10 and under age group in 6:51.23. Jasmine Haugh of Mullingar Jets won the 11-12 age group in 6:24.79 followed by Larasati Moynihan (6:26.29) of Mallow Swans and City of Derry’s Mia Kenny (6:30.80). Amber Harrison was first home in the 13-14 age group, the Waterford Crystal finished ahead of Maria Lyons (Sligo) in 5:56.35 and Emma Gaffney from Limerick in 5:57.56. 15 year old Margaret O’Brien won the 15-18 age-group in 5:46.10, a 10 second pb for the Killarney swimmer.

Bangor’s Matthew Hand won the boys 11 and under 400IM in 5:54.71, over 20 seconds faster than his entered time! Banbridge swimmers Niall McGeown (5:44.17) and Finlay Wright (6:02.85) won Gold and Silver in the 12-13 age group with Templeogue’s Conor Kenny taking Bronze. Conor Morris (5:33.36) of City of Derry won the 14-15 age group with Ben Cudmore (5:35.29) in second and David Doorly third in 5:37.20 while Lisburn’s Harry Cross won the 16-18 age group in 5:24.09.

It was extremely close in the girls 10 and under 100m Backstroke final, 9 year old Grace Dawson got the touch just ahead of Aer Lingus’ Aoife Doran (1:232.15) in 1:21.94,   Banbridge’s Kate MacFarlane took Bronze in 1:23.56. In the 11-12 age-group Limerick’s Amber McGee won Gold in 1:16.34 ahead of Penny Semple (1:17.32) Sundays Well and Rachel Childs (1:18.09) of Ards. Eilidh McPhee of Ballina won the 13-14 age group in 1:13.78, she held off Templeogue’s Arianne Courtney (1:14.05) and City of Belfast’s Ellie Falls (1:14.40) while in the 15-18 age group Ennis’ Tara McEvoy took the top spot in 1:12.13 with Maya Blanco Morrissey of NAC second in 1:13.33 and Kingdom’s Aoife O’Connell third in 1:13.53.

The boys provided the next round of excitement in the 100m Backstroke Finals. In the 11 and under group Ards’ Adam Barnes won the Gold medal in 1:15.09, he was closely followed by Adam Colgan of Lecale 1:16.08 and Aonghus Cook from Tuam in 1:16.13.  The 12-13 age-group saw Aer Lingus’ Simon Barrett touch first in 1:13.55 with Krisztian Csarodai Nagy (Waterford Crystal) second in 1:15.44 & Robin Pfeiffer (Blue Fin) third 1:16.09. Sean Kenny (Sligo, 1:08.79) pipped Matthew Morel (Aer Lingus 1:09.10) to the post in the 14-15 age group with Noah Coleman (Sundays Well 1:10.59) third while Mallow’s Conleth Aspel took Gold in the 16-18 age group in 1:08.73 ahead of Ben Vahey (1:08.83) of Shark and Robert O’Brien (1:10.10) of Killarney.

Aer Lingus’ Aoife Doran was back on the podium for the 200m Freestyle. The Aer Lingus swimmer added Gold to her 100m Backstroke Silver in 2:39.93. Alyssa Boyd was second in 2:40.54 and Alaoise Regan third in 2:45.47. Ruby Markey won Gold in the 12-12 age group. The Aer Lingus swimmer touched ahead of Erika Lowe (Athlone 2:30.75) and Penny Semple (Sundays Well 2:31.41) in 2:24.55.Titans Isobel Radford Dodd was victorious in the 13-14 age group, she claimed Gold in 2:20.57 ahead of Anastazya Pliszka (Comans 2:21.27) and Cliona Colvin (NAC 2:22.50). Ennis’ Tara McEvoy was in impressive form as she won her second Gold of the day in the 15-18 age-group. 16 year old McEvoy took 200m Freestyle Gold in 2:19.28 just ahead of Vikings Hollie Curtin 2:19.67 and Lean Duane (2:19.86) of Mallow.

Ards’ Adam Barnes was also in impressive form tonight. The 11 year old added 200m Freestyle Gold to his 100m Backstroke Gold in a time of 2:24.35, ahead of Coman’s Philip Duda (2:24.54) and NAC’s Oisin Tebite (2:25.74). Robin Pfeiffer also doubled up on medals adding Gold to his 100m Backstroke Bronze in the 12-13 age-group. The Ennis swimmer won in 2:19.39 ahead of Banbridge’s Niall McGeown (2:25.44) and 100m Backstroke silver medalist Krisztian Csarodai –Nagy. (2:25.95). In the 14-15 age-group Christian Kenny –Carroll swam 2:11.81 to take Gold, the Laois Marlins swimmer won ahead of Kingdom’s Padraig Woods (2:14.58) and Longford’s Daniel Madigan (2:15.14). Tiernan Burke of Blue Fin swam today’s fastest time in the 200m Freestyle collecting 16-18 age-group Gold in 2:08.44. Mallow Swan’s Colin O’Keefe won Silver in 2:10.27 just ahead of Kingdom’s Sean Cahill (2:10.58).

400m Individual Medley Gold medalist Cara McCormack was back this afternoon to win her second Gold, this time in the 100m Breaststroke. Cara won the 10 & under age group medal in 1:31.58 ahead of Bangor’s Grace Davison (1:32.34)and Aer Lingus’ Aoife Doran  (1:36.12). Fermoy’s Zoe Daniels Howard claimed the 11-12 age group title in 1:28.31. The Fermoy swimmer touched ahead of Limerick’s Amber Gleeson (1:28.50) and Breifne’s Ciara McGill (1:30.13). In the 13 – 14 age-group Isobel Radford-Dodd added 100m Breaststroke Gold to her 200m Freestyle Gold in 1:24.08. Carrick Fins Jennifer Andrews was second in 1:25.24 with Larnes Giulia Allen third in 1:25.41. Kingdom’s Aisling Higgins touched in 1:23.08 to win the 15-18 age-group with New Ross’ Niamh Fogarty collecting silver in 1:24.75 and Viking’s Orla Tallon bronze in 1:25.19.

In Friday’s final set of individual events, the boys 100m Breaststroke finals, Bangor’s Matthew Hand won Gold in the 11 and under age group in 1:27.09. Matthew was followed by Sami Phelan of Glenalbyn in 1:29.88 and Andrew Larkin of Armagh in 1:31.98. Blue Fin’s Robin Pfeiffer collected his third medal of the night in winning the 12-13 age-group. Robin won Gold in 1:26.28, Nikita Bondarevs of St. Fiaccs won Silver in 1:28.67 and Galway’s Ben Naughton took Bronze in 1:29.38. Clonmel’s Brendan Cantwell won his first medal of the weekend in the 14-15 age group. Brendan posted a time of 1:18.68 ahead of Athlone’s John Stevenson in 1:20.42 and Sharks Evan Welby in 1:20.56. Jack Sandford of Splashworld Sharks took the final individual gold of the night in 1:17.18 ahead of Lisburn’s Harry Cross (1:18.60) and Athlone’s Ian McAuley (1:18.71).

There was huge excitement in UL Arena as the relays took to the water for the night’s final event, the 200m Medley Relay! Banbridge won the girls 14 and under age group with an impressive swim of 2:22.67, they were followed by Claremorris (2:23.24) and City of Belfast (2:23.83). In the boys 15 and under event Ennis were the victors in 2:4.13 touching out Longford (2:15.40) and Aer Lingus (2:16.70). Kingdom Swimming Club won the girls 15-18 age group in 2:16.37 with Ballina taking Silver in 2:20.70 and St Fiaccs Bronze in 2:21.02 while in the men’s event (16-18) Lecale took Gold in 2:07.39, Shark won Silver in 2:07.82 and St Fiaccs Bronze in 2:07.98.
