It has been announced today that World University Games Silver medallist Fiona Doyle has been selected to represent Europe in the 2013 Duel in the Pool competition (Europe vs. USA) which takes place in Glasgow, Scotland from 19th – 20th December.
Limerick woman Doyle, will form part of the 44 member Europe All Star Select Team with 22 female and 22 male swimmers selected from all over the continent. Doyle has been selected based on her performances in 2013 which included a 100m Breaststroke Silver Medal at the World University Games in Russia in July and two Top 16 finishes at the FINA Swimming World Swimming Championships in August.
A delighted Doyle commented “I’m really excited and honoured to have been selected to represent Europe at the 2013 Duel in the Pool. I have been working hard since returning to Calgary and am looking forward to returning to Ireland in December to compete at both the Duel in the Pool and the European Championships”.
The 22 year old follows in the footsteps of Grainne Murphy who represented Europe in the 2011 edition of the competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 2 day event will be held in short course (25 metre) format at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, the home of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Doyle, who is based at the University of Calgary in Canada, will prepare for the event with a team of Irish swimmers at the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships from the 12th – 15th December in Herning, Denmark.
The events Fiona will compete in will be decided on at a later stage.
