On Sunday 2nd March, almost 100 swimmers made their way to Trinity College Dublin to show their support for Padraig Schaler by getting into the pool to swim a mile.
A great variety of people came to show their support . Young swimmers from Aer Lingus SC, Atlantis SC and Tallaght SC showed up many of their older counterparts, Masters swimmers from all around Dublin spoke keenly of participating in future events supporting Paddy whilst friends and former team mates continued to outdo themselves in their support by turning up in their droves. Even strangers who happened to be passing by got in the pool to play their part.
In all, an incredible €1410 was raised. Padraig’s family have expressed their thanks to everyone who participated in the swim, mentioning the youngest participant in particular – Rory Cosgrove from Atlantis.
“None of what happened in that pool today was ‘normal’. Imagine, a nine-year old boy who in his life had not swum more then 400m in one go, managed to successfully complete the full mile. He’ll never forget this extraordinary day ever in his whole life, the day when he became a real hero!”
Thank you to everyone who participated in our event and lent their support for Paddy. Further details of his progress can be found in his Father’s blog – http://www.hospi-tales.com
Keep an eye out in the near future as we’re not done yet!
