Young Swimmers Raise the Roof on Day 3
Recently appointed Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan was on hand in Limerick today for today’s final session and was suitably impressed by the wonderful atmosphere created by our young swimmers and clubs.

The day’s event began with a time trial event swam by visiting senior GB swimmers at UL for high-altitude training facilities as they prepare for the Rio Games – James Guy,Cameron Kurle and Dan Wallace.
Day three’s racing continued in the same great atmosphere as previous days. The days sessions kicked off in exciting style with the Girls 11 – 12 100m Butterfly seeing a great head to head swim between Limerick’s Chiara Cedrone and the Kingdom’s Alexandra Perez. Completing the podium was Rachel Kelly of Newry & Mourne.
The second event of the day saw another exciting finish in the Boys 14-15 age group of the 100m Butterfly. Laois Marlin’s’ Christian Kenny-Carroll was victorious touching in a time of 1:08.87, just ahead of Seab Breenan of Tuam finishing in 1:10.27. Third place in the event went to Conor Morris from City of Derry in 1:10.34.There was strong competition in the Boy’s 16-18 age-group with Cian Breslin (CLaremorris) and Ryan Houston (Lisburn City) almost neck and neck in the 100m Butterfly. Cian touched in 1:07.42, just pipping Ryan who swam a 1:07.76. The bronze medal went to Shane Donohue of St. Fiac’s in 1:07.76.
The day of close finishes continued with an unbelievable race in the Boys 14-15200m Backstroke, the top 3 separated by only .04 of a second. The honours went to Sundays Well swimmer Ben Cudmore in a time of 2:29.68, he was closely followed by his team-mate Alex Walsh of Sundays Well (2:29.69). The bronze medal went to David Doorly of Galway with a 2:29.72. It wasn’t as close in the boys 12-13 event as Robin Pfeiifer of Bluefin cruised home in a time of 2.37.56. Following Robin on to the podium was Simon Barrett, Aer Lingus, (2:39.04) and Sunday Well’s James Ryan (2:41.34).
Aoifie Doran, Aer Lingus, and Alyssa Boyd, Bangor took the first and second places in the girls 10 & under 200m IM. Cara McCormack (Dolphin) took third. The final event of the day, brought a fantastic battle between Paola O’Brien (Shark) and Tara McEvoy (Ennis), as Paola pipped Tara to the gold with a time of 2:40.48 to Tara’s 2:41.17. NIam Fogarty (New Ross) completed the podium finishing in 2:41.23. The other Girls 200IM gold medals went to Jennifer Andrews in the 13-14 age group, Penny Semple in 11-12 Age Group.
We head into the final day of competition tomorrow. It’s been a brilliant compeition so far conducted in the finest sporting atmosphere.
