2014 sees a change in the administration of the Irish Sports Council Carding Scheme for three sports, including sailing, athletics and swimming. Swim Ireland will now take over the management of the scheme for carded swimmers ensuring greater integration into the high performance system. All administration of the carding scheme will be done through the Swim Ireland High Performance Office and money will be paid to swimmers directly from the National Governing Body. The Irish Sports Council will remain heavily involved in the Carding Scheme, adopting the role of overseeing  management and robustly monitoring and evaluating the athlete payment process. This change in administration signals the start of the transition process for all carded sports in the running of the scheme, as recommended in the Carding Review 2012.
