The spotlight will be on Lagan Valley Leisureplex Lisburn this weekend for the Irish National Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships. Competition will take place from Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December with 57 teams and over 400 swimmers in action in the first National Championships of the new swimming season.
Olympian Barry Murphy has shown impressive short course form already in 2013 winning a Bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke at the first leg of the FINA World Swimming Cup in Eindhoven in August. Murphy also travelled to the second leg of the World Cup Meets in Berlin and was joined by Ards SC swimmer Curtis Coulter. The 28 year old Dubliner broke the 50m and 100m Breaststroke Irish senior records there while Coulter broke a string of Irish junior records. Both Murphy and Coulter will look to continue that form this weekend.
Grainne Murphy will return to the pool this weekend taking part in her first National competition in over a year, the 20 year old from Wexford will compete in the 800m, 400m and 200m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley.
Barry Murphy along with Andrew Meegan, Brendan Hyland, Shani Stallard and Bethany Carson will use the event this weekend as a warm up for the European Short Course Swimming Championships taking place in Denmark on 12th – 15th December where they will be joined by Fiona Doyle. College commitments prevent Doyle and Sycerika McMahon from attending the Irish Short Course Championships this year.
Press Releases will be available daily.
