Ireland’s Mona McSharry and Conor Ferguson have progressed to more finals on the last day of racing at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, USA.
McSharry, who has already won gold and bronze at these Championships, won her heat of the 200m Breaststroke to progress to tonight’s final in fifth place overall. The 17-year-old clocked 2:30.07, and with a best time of 2:27.44 she is well in contention for a third medal. USA’s Zoe Bartel was today’s fastest qualifier in 2:29.00.
Conor Ferguson made it three for three in finals for his events at the Championships. Ferguson, who collected 100m Backstroke silver on Thursday, advances to the 200m Backstroke Final in 8th place. The Irish record holder in the event touched in 2:01.56 to secure a lane in the 11.15pm final. The USA’s Carson Foster will take the centre lane for the final as the top qualifier in 1:59.44.
Also in action today Tallaght and National Centre Dublin swimmer Niamh Coyne concluded her championships with a swim of 2:37.40 in the 200m Breaststroke heats.
