Mood Matters Workshop for Adults
Part of Swim Ireland’s on-going safeguarding programme for Clubs
Information about the programme
Swim Ireland and Swim Ulster are working with Aware (www.aware-ni.org) to offer the Mood Matters programme. Mood Matters is a well-being and mental health workshop for adults working with young people in our clubs. We aim to support the well-being of young people both physically and mentally. The interactive workshop will be delivered by a facilitator from Aware.
What does ‘Mood Matters’ cover?
The workshop will cover the topic of well-being and how to look after the mental health of young people. As adults, we take care of the physical well-being of young people, and can recognise when a young person is well and fit or physically hurt or injured; however we might not recognise the signs when someone is finding it hard to cope with their sport, school, exams and generally all the things that go on in their lives. This workshop will help adults to understand how we can support young people and promote positive mental health in our club environment.
Topics in the workshop include:
What is mental health?
What things affect our mental health?
What are mental health problems/illnesses?
Stress and depression
Where can I get help?
Looking after our mental health
Who should attend?
The workshop is for all adults working with or involved with young people in the club. This includes children’s officers, coaches, teachers, team manager, committees and parents. In fact the workshop will be beneficial for every adult in the club!
When and where are the workshops?
We have two workshops scheduled at the moment:
| Date | Time | Venue |
| Wednesday 15th October 2014 | 6.30pm to 9.30pm | Grove Wellbeing Centre, Belfast |
| Wednesday 5th November 2014 | 6.30pm to 9.30pm | Cookstown (venue to be confirmed) |
How do I book?
You will need to book you place by contacting:
Ruth McQuillan at ruth@swimulster.net
You can attend either workshop convenient for you but you must book your place with Ruth, giving your name, email address, phone number, your club and role/position.
The workshops are free of charge and limited to 25 people per workshop so you will need to book early to guarantee your place. It is vitally important you attend on the day to make sure your place doesn’t go unused; as the workshops are limited, people wishing to attend will be placed on a waiting list.
This workshop is part of our support programme for Swim Ireland clubs.
