Water polo is a team water sport. The game consists of four quarters in which two teams attempt to score goals scoring by throwing the ball into their opponent’s goal. A team consists of 13 athletes, with six field players and one goalkeeper in the water at any one time.

Swim Ireland has a vibrant Water Polo division, with teams catering for all ages and abilities.

Regional and National Leagues and Cups are contested each year, with both male and female teams competing at underage and senior levels.
