Young Swimmers Excel at NAC

Day 4 of the Irish Age Groups Championships and Summer Open continued to be as exciting as the first three with Ireland’s young swimmers putting in more fantastic performances at the National Aquatic Centre. The morning session ended with two sets of junior relays. The Ards girls added 4x100m Medley Gold to their Gold from the 400m Freestyle Relay on Wednesday. Records Tumble at Day 3 of Irish Age Groups and Summer Open – #IAGSO

Swimmers Impress on Day 2 of #IAGSO

Brendan Gibbons kicked off proceedings on Day 2 of the Irish Age Group Championships and Summer Open by doubling his medal tally adding 1500m Freestyle to the 400m won yesterday, Gibbons picked up the Gold in the open event in 16 minutes 5.35 seconds. Darragh McDonald Win’s World Bronze

Nicole Turner fifth in World Championship Final Ireland’s Darragh McDonald has won a bronze medal in the final of the 400m Freestyle (S6 class) at the Paralympic Swimming World Championships in Glasgow this evening in a time of 5:12.61. Doyle Delivers to Secure Breaststroke Silver

Fiona Doyle has won her second medal at the World University Games in South Korea clinching Silver in the 50m Breaststroke Final. 23 year old Doyle, who studies at the University of Calgary, added the Silver medal to her Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke and Olympic qualification time to end a fantastic week in the pool in Gwangju. Doyle Advances to 50m Breaststroke Final at World University Games

Fiona Doyle is through to the 50m Breaststroke Final on the penultimate day of racing in the Nambu University Aquatics Centre at the World University Games. Doyle, who won Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke along with securing a Rio 2016 qualification time earlier in the week, progressed from this morning’s heats to the semi-final in 9th place in a time of 31.57 seconds. Fiona Doyle Secures World Bronze, Smashes Irish Record

Following Olympic qualification yesterday Fiona Doyle continued her fantastic form at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea today, winning Bronze and Ireland’s first medal of the Games. Doyle secured the “A” qualification time in the semi-final of the 100m Breaststroke yesterday clocking 1:07.67 which ranked her fourth going into today’s Final. Doyle Makes Rio QT, Qualifies for World Final

Fiona Doyle became Ireland’s first swimmer to make a Rio 2016 Olympic qualification time today when she swam the semi-final of the 100m Breaststroke at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. The University of Calgary student progressed from the morning heats in 4th place in a time of 1:08.07, her fastest ever morning swim in the event, to rank 3rd overall. Positive Start for Irish Swimmers at World University Games

Ireland’s swimmers had an impressive opening day at the Nambu University Aquatics Centre as competition commenced at the World University Games in South Korea. Shauna O’Brien, competing in the first event of the day, made the semi-finals of the 50m Butterfly progressing in 15th place. The UCD student swam a time of 27.40 in the heats and bettered that time in the semi-final to 27.12, that time just off her Irish Senior Record of 27.10 improved her to 14th overall. [...]
