Irish Men Claim Bronze at EU Nations Cup

Congratulations to the Irish Senior Men’s Water Polo Team on their third place finish at the EU Nations Cup in Denmark over the weekend. They picked up Bronze after a penalty shootout with Switzerland yesterday winning 17-15. Well done to Irish player Jonny Clarke who was top scorer in the tournament also.

RIP Fred Parkes

Swim Ireland are saddened to hear of the passing of Past President Fred Parkes who passed away on 24 Feb 2015 at the age of 78 after a short illness. A memorial service will take place on  Sunday 22nd March at Campbell College,Belfast commencing at 3pm. All are invited. Fred was a top swimmer and water polo player and represented Ireland at both sports. It was while swimming he met his wife Elizabeth who was also an Irish international swimmer. Fred won 16 [...]

Hyland and Ferguson Smash Irish Swimming Records

Records continued to fall on the final day of competition at Swim Ireland’s Dave McCullagh Memorial and Swim Ulster International in Bangor. Brendan Hyland set a new 100m Butterfly senior standard in tonight’s Final, breaking his own 2013 record of 54.50 in 54.27 seconds. Shauna O’Brien Breaks Butterfly Record as Irish Swimmers Make International Qualification Times

Irish records fell on the second day of competition at the Dave McCullagh/Swim Ulster International at the Bangor Aurora in Down as a number of swimmers secured qualification times for this Summers international meets. Shauna O’Brien set a new Irish Senior Record in the Women’s 50m Butterfly Final. 07/03/2015 Norma Cahill has broken the 800m Freestyle European Record (50-54 Age Group) for the second time in 24 hours at the Swim Ireland Masters Championships in Limerick. Having set a new record time of 10:04.64 last night Norma dipped under the 10 minute mark today finishing in 9:59.85. Ferguson, UCD Set Irish Records in Bangor

Fifteen year old Conor Ferguson set himself up for a great weekend of racing setting a new Irish Junior Record in the 50m Backstroke Final, tonight’s first event at the Dave McCullagh Memorial Meet/Swim Ulster International in Bangor. Ferguson’s time of 26.11 broke Karl Burdis’ 2008 Record of 26.19. The Larne swimmer now holds the 50m and 200m Backstroke records with the 100m record surely under threat tomorrow. Irish Swimmers Seek World Championship and European Games Qualification Times

Irish swimmers will take to the pool this weekend (Friday to Sunday) for the first National competition of 2015.  The Dave McCullagh Memorial Meet, which will incorporate the Ulster International Meet, takes place at the Bangor Aurora Leisure Complex in County Down. Over 350 swimmers from 60 clubs including 10 foreign clubs will compete in 32 individual and 6 team events across three days of competition. Irish Open Long Course Masters Championship Gala

The 2015 Irish Open Long Course Masters Championship gala will be held at the UL Arena 50m swimming pool in Limerick this weekend on Friday and Saturday 6th and 7th of March.
