Swimmers Impress on opening night of Age Group Championships

Swim Ireland’s Irish Age Group Championships and Summer Open started in Dublin’s National Aquatic Centre today with lots of exciting swimming taking place from our 12 and under’s right up to seniors. This morning saw the heat declared winners in the boys 400m Freestyle events. Irish Age Group Championships and Summer Open Kick Off at NAC

Swim Ireland’s Irish Age Group Championships and Summer Open start tomorrow at the National Aquatic Centre and will run until Sunday 24th July. Over 870 athletes from 109 clubs will compete across the five days competition for age group and open titles in 45 events. Mona McSharry Wins Breaststroke Silver at European Juniors

Mona McSharry doubled up on medals and took Ireland’s tally to three on the closing night of competition at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary tonight. McSharry, who had won Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke on the opening night of the championships, claimed Silver in the 100m Breaststroke. Emma Reid through to Butterfly Semi-Final

Ireland’s Emma Reid has progressed to the semi-final of the 50m Butterfly on the final day of competition at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary. Reid swam a lifetime best 27.44 finishing second in her heat and advances in 6th place. The Ards swimmer knocked three tenths of a second off her previous best time of 27.74 from this year’s Irish Open Swimming Championships. Irish Junior swimmers continued to impress on the penultimate day of competition at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary today. Four swimmers progressed to semi-finals and a relay to the Final after this morning’s preliminaries in the Dezso Gyarmati Swimming Pool in Hódmezővásárhely. Quinn sets third Irish record, 7th in Freestyle Final; McSharry 6th in Breaststroke Final

Ireland’s junior swimmers continued their impressive form at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary this evening. Ireland already has two medallists at these championships in Mona McSharry and Conor Ferguson. Conor Ferguson has claimed Irelands second medal at the Junior European Swimming Championships in Hungary tonight winning Silver in the 100m Backstroke Final, as last night’s Bronze medal winner Mona McSharry and Gerry Quinn progressed from their respective semi-finals to tomorrow’s Finals.
