Regional Support Officers Appointed for Connacht, Leinster and Munster

Swim Ireland is delighted to announce that the recruitment process for the 3 Regional/Club Support Officer positions has been successfully finalised. The Club and Regional Support Officers will be based within the region, visiting clubs on a regular basis and working closely with the Regional Management Committees. The Officers will be on hand to provide assistance/advice on development issues (technical and administrative), work closely with clubs on guiding them through accreditation (Club Mark programme) and will aim to provide comprehensive support in all aspects of governance. This in practice means the support officers will be the main point of contact for all general club queries as well as membership and affiliation enquiries and will be the key relationship manager for all Swim Ireland Club matters.

Swim Ireland is pleased to announce the following appointments:

  • Cathal Geraghty – Munster
  • Aisling Mc Keever – Leinster
  • Vincent Finn – Connacht

Cathal joins the Swim Ireland team after spending the last 5 years teaching swimming in Limerick. Cathal has been involved in many sports and has experience in developing and starting new sports clubs from the foundation. Cathal has a diploma in recreation and leisure management which covers all aspects of club development, coaching, retention of members, marketing, internal and external communication, recruitment of new members and volunteers and budgeting. With Cathal’s experience in swimming and knowledge of club development, we are excited at what he will bring to the clubs and region of Munster.

Aisling comes to us with over 10 years’ experience in swim teaching having obtained her Level 2 Swim Teachers Award from Swim Ireland. She has previously worked as a regional swim co-ordinator with Jackie Skelly fitness, which involved developing the levels within the swimming program and providing training to swim teachers and managers. Having also achieved a Diploma in Sports Management she has a good in depth knowledge of development, management, organisation and administration as they apply to the sports industry. With her widespread knowledge and experience in swimming we believe Aisling will provide the Leinster clubs and regional management team with a great deal of support.

Connacht’s new Support Officer, Vincent comes to Swim Ireland with a great deal of experience and expertise in regional and club management. A familiar face in the region, he has two daughters involved in swimming competitively and has himself, been actively involved in many aspects of swimming administration over the last five years. Vincent has helped run several Community Games and schools galas as well as club and regional galas over the years. Having been involved in club committees, Connacht Regional Committee meetings and assisting in the operation of club and Connacht galas, he is very familiar with the club and regional structure and the world of swimming clubs. With Vincent’s knowledge and experience we are confident he has a lot to offer the Connacht clubs and region.

As part of this changing structure within Swim Ireland Adam Cox will become Membership and Recreation Manager, overseeing the club and membership programme. In due course, Niamh McDonnell will also transition into the role of Competitions Officer responsible for the implementation of the national competition structure.

Swim Ireland wants to provide more visible and on the ground support to clubs and regions and hope this will be a very positive step in helping develop and support clubs/regions and thereby deliver positive results for the Swim Ireland membership.
