It is a requirement of FINA, that Members of Affiliated Clubs proposing to train or compete in another country, obtain a Permit from their National Governing Body, before leaving the Country. The details of the requirements, binding on all members of FINA can be found on the FINA Web site – General Rules GR2, GR3 & GR 4 apply.

Anyone intending to train or compete abroad should therefore make application to Swim Ireland at least 28 days prior to the date of departure, outlining the arrangements. All applications need to be made by completing the International Permit Form or the International Notification Form for Masters & emailing it to membership@swimireland.ie.

What is required from a member/club/squad who is wishing to compete or train abroad?

Members, groups of members or affiliated clubs wishing to compete or train in countries outside Ireland must apply for permission to do so by completing an International Permit Form. Download the International Permit Form or contact your Regional Support Officer. Please remember to apply for an International Permit at least 28 days before leaving the country.

Do team staff require any training before taking club members away?

Yes, all team staff must have completed level 1 safeguarding. Teams travelling with athletes under 18 must have at least 1 qualified team manager. Additional team staff must be qualified for the role they hold – coaches, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach etc.

Do team staff require a Garda Vetting check?

Yes, all team staff must current Garda vetting or Access NI.

How will we know if a Permit has been approved?

An approved copy of the Permit application will be emailed back to the club secretary, please retain for your own records.
