Swim Ireland are saddened to hear of the passing of lifelong coach and former Ireland Water Polo President, Bert O’Brien, on Saturday, November 6.
Bert was a stalwart of the Irish Water Polo Association and an accomplished swimmer. He has contributed greatly to Irish swimming and water polo over many years as an athlete, coach, committee member and all-round advocate for the sport from University and Club level right up to the National and International stage.
In 2015 his dedication was recognised as he received Swim Ireland's Outstanding Contribution to Water Polo Award.
Bert was a passionate, empathetic, and honourable man, whose love for water polo was evident in every role bestowed upon him, he will be sorely missed within the community.
Our thoughts are with Rita, Julie and Gary, his brother Colm and sister Maire and the wider family at this sad time.
