The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the delivery of the Regional Club Cluster Plan since March 2020 and unfortunately it is likely to impact face to face interventions for the foreseeable future.

Following the successful delivery of virtual Coach, and Athlete and Parent Webinars during lockdown, Swim Ireland Performance will continue to use virtual delivery until such times as we can safely return to more practical methods.

Since the pandemic commenced, virtual delivery has allowed us to engage with a greater number of athletes, coaches and parents, and made the clinics more accessible to our members.

We will continue to deliver the quarterly Parent and Athlete Webinars and Virtual CPD Modules for Coaches (Theory) during Quarter 4 of 2020 (October 1 to December 31, 2020) and a CPD point will be awarded to coaches who attend this module, with no charge to the coach or the club.

From October 1 we will introduce a monthly online session, focussed on a technical aspect of our sport. This Technical Theory Webinar will replace the Coaching Practical Session component of the Club Clinics, and will highlight the importance of a technical aspect of swimming and discuss best practice around this topic.

The session will be delivered in two parts, each lasting 20-30 minutes; part one will be open to both swimmers and coaches, and part two will focus on recommended drills for coaches.

The following Technical Theory Webinars will be delivered to the 9-12 year old age group athletes and their coaches:

  • Body Line and Balance - October
  • Streamline and Underwater Kick - November
  • Body Position Kick – December

We will continue to review both the Government of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Executive Guidelines and will update the plan accordingly at the start of 2021.
