Cryan and Passmore Impress at British Diving Championships

Irish divers continued their preparations for this summer’s World Championships, with Clare Cryan and Jake Passmore competing in this weekend’s British Diving Championships.

Clare finished in 9th place in the 1m springboard final with a score of 227. She was challenging the medal positions throughout the first four rounds of dives. Her fifth and last dive was a defining moment for her, opting to use a forward 2 1/2 somersault with 1 twist, an extremely hard dive with a 3.2 difficulty rating.

Unfortunately, the dive didn’t go as planned, the risk didn’t pay off, and Clare dropped the rankings. However, it was incredible to see Clare pushing the boundaries of the sport. This was the hardest dive performed on the women’s 1m event at British Championships and a dive rarely seen performed by any female diver in the World.

Great job, Clare, for taking a risk and trying to change how Women’s diving is traditionally seen!

Clare is back in action on Sunday in the 3M Springboard.

Jake Passmore put in an impressive performance to finish 6th in the Men’s 3M Springboard Final. It’s Passmore’s first year in the senior ranks, winning the World Junior Championships silver in 2022.

In a really high-standard final, full of international divers with World, Commonwealth and European medals, Jake scored 394.15, just two points off his best score of 396.15.
