Swim Ireland’s 2019 Irish Open Diving Championships took place at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th November with over 200 divers from Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US competing.

With preparation continuing for Ireland’s Performance divers ahead of qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games at the Diving World Cup in April, Oliver Dingley, Clare Cryan, Tanya Watson and Ciara McGing all put in impressive performances.

Cryan collected gold in both the Senior 1M and 3M events, Dingley secured the top spot in his preferred 3M event whilst also taking 1M silver and Tanya Watson topped the Women’s Platform podium with Ciara McGing claiming silver.

Ireland’s up and coming divers from both Shamrock DC and Diving Academy Northern Ireland had tough competition across the four days but had very impressive performances in both the novice and age group events.

In the Age Group competitions Shamrock Diving Club’s Caroline Begg took Platform Gold in the A Category. In the B Group, Begg’s Shamrock team-mate Tara-Rose O’Brien won Platform Bronze while Sophie McGuinness was the silver medallist in the C Group.

In the Boy’s C Age Group competition, Shamrock’s Pau Marginet was in great form, winning silver in both the 3M and Platform events.

On to the Novice events where there were a number of podium finishes for Shamrock and DANI divers. In the E Groups, DANI’s Jacob Duignan took Gold for the boys while Shamrock’s Ellie Doyle won bronze for Shamrock. There were two DANI divers on the podium in the C Group with Jake Anderson claiming the top spot and Cole Savage the silver medal. In the D group Javier Marginet took bronze for Shamrock. Finally, the B group saw medals for Harry Leni (DANI) in the silver medal position and Fergus McGuinness (Shamrock) bronze for the boys while Aoife Cahill of Shamrock took bronze in the girl’s competition.
