Day 4 Results – Davison, Hodgins, and Custer in action on Day 4

Day four of the LEN European Junior Championships has come to an end for Team Ireland, there was three Irish swimmers competing this morning in the Otopeni Olympic Swimming Complex.
Grace Davison was the first Irish swimmer in the pool this morning, competing in the 100m Freestyle. The Ards swimmer finished fastest in her heat with a time of 57.98, just .39 seconds shy of her personal best. Davison, who has had several impressive performances this week, will return to the blocks for the final time this week on Saturday in the 200m Individual Medley.
Grace Hodgins of Trojan SC, competed in the 800m Freestyle, finishing in a time of 8:56.55. Hodgins was just .9 of a second off her personal best, finishing in 13th position overall from a total of 28 swimmers.
Speaking following her 800m Freestyle, Hodgins said: “It felt pretty good, I thought I was going a lot faster during the race, so it was not the time I was expecting but I am pretty happy. The week has been good so far, it is a little bit intimidating but now that I have swam two races, I feel I have gotten used to the call room and routine, so it is definitely getting less intimidating! I race the 400m Freestyle on Sunday, it’s not my best race but it’s a nice one to finish off with because it’s nice and short, so I am looking forward to it.”
Liam Custer swam the 400m Individual Medley, Custer is currently the holder of the Irish Junior Record (4:24.50) in 400m IM, it was an unfortunate morning for the 18-year-old as he received a disqualification from the event. Custer will be back on the final day for the 400m Freestyle.
Thomas Leggett and Evan Bailey return to the pool tomorrow for the heats of the 100m Freestyle. Ellie McCartney joins Davison in the 200m Individual Medley but will make her European Juniors debut first in the 100m Breaststroke.
