Irish Down Syndrome Sporting Org. returned to Dublin yesterday evening, Sunday 22nd September with their Team of ten swimmers who participated in the 5th Open European Swimming and Synchro DSISO (Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation) Championships which took place in Olbia, Sardinia, Italy from the 15th - 22nd September 2019. In order to compete at European level these swimmers attained the qualifying times required by the international organisation.

Team Ireland was led by Áine Yap, Head of Delegation and Niall Molloy, Head Coach.

Anna Hennessy, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal

Robbie English, Lyrath, Kilkenny

Eoin Tully, Lucan, Co. Dublin

David Hogg, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath

Team Ireland competed against seventeen Countries including USA, Russia and Argentina.

IDSSO are delighted to report excellent performances from all our swimmers, with thirty-five personal bests achieved in a total of sixty-eight events and an overall total of 13 medals.  Coach Niall Molloy is delighted with the achievements of Team Ireland and stated that the PB’s achieved are a reflection of the team’s hard work and commitment to their sport and their ability to respond to the challenge of rising international standards.

Head of Delegation Áine Yap commented that all 10 athletes achieved world qualifying times. She stated that IDSSO is now looking forward to bringing the team to the world Trisome games in Antalya, Turkey in early April next year with the continuing support of Swim Ireland and Sport Ireland. She also acknowledged Aqualine’s sponsorship of tracksuits, which gave a fresh and modern look to the team.
