Irish swimmers continued their impressive form on day three of the European Championships in Glasgow with all three of this morning’s athletes, Shane Ryan, Conor Ferguson and Darragh Greene, progressing to semi- finals.

Following his bronze medal winning performance in the 50m Backstroke last night, Shane Ryan returned to the pool with Conor Ferguson for the 100m Backstroke this morning. Ferguson, who just missed out on the 50m Backstroke Final on Friday after an Irish Junior Record swim, posted the faster time of the two finishing third in his heat in 54.61 to go 9th into this evening’s semi-final. Ryan touched in 54.67 to advance as twelfth fastest.

Ryan will swim in the first semi-final with Ferguson in the second starting at 5.31pm.

Greene, Ireland’s first sub 60 second 100m Breaststroke swimmer, who missed out on the final in the event after a swim-off on Friday, returned to the pool this morning for his second fastest ever 200m Breaststroke swim; his fastest time a 2:10.53 from the Irish Open this year. The National Centre Dublin swimmer was third in his heat in 2:11.22 and is through to tonight’s 5.49pm semi-final in seventh place.
