Ireland will have three swimmers in action at the European Championships in Rome this evening with Darragh Greene and Danielle Hill advancing to semi-finals joining Mona McSharry who competes in the 100m Breaststroke Final.

In the most challenging of sessions, with wind, rain and an accelerated timeline introduced in an attempt to avoid an impending storm, Hill, competing in the 50m Backstroke, advances in thirteenth place in 28.54. The Larne swimmer was a finalist in the event at the Commonwealth Games just last week where she placed seventh in 28.29.

Darragh Greene will be competing in his second semi-final this week in the 200m Breaststroke, having made it to the 100m Breaststroke semi-finals on Thursday. The Tokyo Olympian was third in his heat and advances seventh overall in 2:12.53.

Eoin Corby, also swimming the 200m Breaststroke was eighteenth overall in 2:14.75 and is the second reserve for this evening’s semi-final.

Irish interest in this evening’s finals starts with Mona McSharry in the 100m Breaststroke Final at 5.28pm (IRL), followed by Danielle Hill in the 50m Backstroke Semi-Final at 5.57pm and Darragh Greene in the 200m Breaststroke Semi-Final at 6.04pm.

Also, in action this morning, Victoria Catterson clocked 2:02.56 in the 200m Freestyle. Brendan Hyland was the best of the Irish swimmers in the 100m Butterfly touching in 53.36 ahead of Shane Ryan (54.29) and Max McCusker (54.36).
