An 8 strong Irish swimming team will begin competition from Wednesday, at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships.  The team, led by Andy Reid and assisted by John Szaranek and Emmet Crowley (National Centre Limerick) will compete from the 3rd – 7th July at the Aquatics Palace in Kazan, Russia.   The opening day of competition will see four Irish swimmers in action with Sean Scannell (National Centre Dublin) first up in the 100m Backstroke. Amelia Kane (Ards ASC), who competed at the 2018 championships, will compete in the 400m Individual Medley, while National Centre Limerick team-mates Eoin Corby and Uiseann Cooke will compete in the 200m Breaststroke.

Completing the team, Paddy Johnston and Alfie Kelly have experience from the 2018 European Junior Championships while Sean McNicholl competed at the 2017 European Youth Olympic Games. Daniel Wiffen will be representing Ireland on the International stage for the first time.

Speaking before the event Team Leader Andy Reid said “The Team have travelled well, having been in Russia since Friday morning and settled into a good routine.  Our focus is very much on ‘What is Important Now’, thinking only about one round at a time and preparing to deliver lifetime best swims.  The team dynamic is very positive and we are excited to begin racing on Wednesday.”
