Swim Ireland’s Irish Short Course Swimming Championships kick off tomorrow at Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn with swimmers competing for national titles across 42 individual and relay events.
Competition will take place from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th December with huge numbers this year including 76 teams and over 530 swimmers in action in the first National Championships of the 2018/19 swimming season.
In 2017, over 20 Irish senior and junior records were broken at the event, will we see the same in 2018?
Mona McSharry has already shown good form this short course season with Irish Senior Records in the 50m Freestyle and 100m IM, City of Belfast’s Michael Hewitt has also made the record books for a junior time of 54.61 in the 100m Butterfly at Ulster SC Championships. McSharry and Hewitt will be joined by Irish record holders Jordan Sloan, Ellen Walshe, Niamh Kilgallen and Jack McMillan amongst others.
With a team of 5 swimmers departed for the World SC Championships on Tuesday this week, Brendan Hyland, Conor Ferguson, Darragh Greene, Niamh Coyne and Shane Ryan will all be missing from the event.
