Swim Ireland’s Irish Winter Meet continued at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre this morning with some impressive swims in the final morning of short course (25m) heats.

Niamh Coyne, who has already won the 50m and 200m Breaststroke this weekend, is on course for a treble after she was the fastest qualifier in the 100m heats in 1:07.50. In the 200m Breaststroke Darragh Greene held off Eoin Corby to top the rankings, Greene clocked 2:08.50, just .9 off his Irish Record of 2:07.60.

Bangor’s Jordan Sloan came out on top in the 100m Freestyle heats with a time of 47.76. In the Women’s 200m Freestyle Victoria Catterson went under two minutes for the first time touching in 1:59.29 and is the fastest qualifier for this evening’s final.

16-year-old Ellie McKibbin of Ards was fastest in the 100m Butterfly in 1:02.60 while team-mate Amelia Kane held off Banbridge’s Julia Knox (4:53.72) in the 400m Individual Medley in 4:47.33.

National Centre Dublin team-mates Cillian Melly and Brendan Hyland battled in the 200m Butterfly, while Melly lead for 175 metres, the final turn saw Hyland move ahead to take to win in 1:58.38 to Melly’s 1:58.85.

Kilkenny’s Maria Godden had a comprehensive win in the 200m Backstroke in 2:12.48 ahead of Amelia Kane in 2:16.18, while in the 100m Backstroke, Ards’ Paddy Johnston got the better of Shane Ryan with a strong finish in 53.41, Ryan touching in 53.95.

In the 400m Freestyle, yesterday’s double Irish Record breaker in the 200m Freestyle, Jack McMillan, cruised to the top of the rankings in 3:43.79.

National record holder Danielle Hill (Larne) and Erin Riordan (UCD) battled for the top spot in the 50m Freestyle, it was Hill who got to the wall first in 25.39, out-touching Riordan by .2 in 25.59.

The final events of the morning saw Eoin Corby (2:01.49) win over Cadan McCarthy (2:04.39) in the 200m Individual Medley while Ards’ Rebecca Reid won the 100m Individual Medley in 1:03.26.

Swimmers will compete in the final session of the Irish Winter Meet in long course (50m) format from 5.30pm this evening.
