July 24, 2019

Ireland’s Mixed Medley Relay team of Conor Ferguson, Niamh Coyne, Ellen Walshe and Robbie Powell combined this morning in Gwangju to finish second in their heat and 19th overall in 3:53.69. The time was just outside the Irish Record of 3:52.38 set in 2017. The young team, all under the age of 20, show real promise in the event, which has been added to the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020.

Also in action today, Curtis Coulter, making his World Championships debut, touched in 50.86 in the 100m Freestyle.

Ferguson, along with  Darragh Greene are back in action tomorrow. Ferguson is first up in the 200m Backstroke while Greene will compete in the 200m Breaststroke. Greene has already shown great form this week and will look to lower his Irish Record of 2:10.05 and go under the Olympic Qualification Time of 2:10.35 in that event.
