Junior Molly Mayne on Friday set a new personal best time at the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Despite being drawn in lane 0 in her 200m Individual Medley heat, and having not competed in this event in major short course competition since 2019, the 16-year-old showed professionalism to clock 2:15.71.

The time was 0.65 seconds faster than she had ever swum before, and came off the back of a busy FINA Swimming World Cup and European Championships schedule.

Mayne will be back on Saturday morning for her final heats of this competition in 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. She has already set an impressive new personal best of 31:04 in 50m Breaststroke this season.

National Centre Limerick's Eoin Corby was also in action on Friday, where he swam 2:12.25 in the 200m Breaststroke heats.

Like Mayne, he will feature in two heats on Saturday morning, his events being 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.

The 19-year-old holds the Irish Junior Record in both short course events.
