Swim Ireland is delighted to announce Sport Ireland Women in Sport Funding of over €10,000 has been allocated to increase opportunities for female coaches in 2022, which has led to the creation of the new Female Coaching Mentorship Programme starting in May 2022.

The mentorship programme has been developed by the Swim Ireland Performance Team as we move towards Paris 2024 and strives to increase the presence of female coaches at Performance level across Ireland. The programme is specifically designed to focus on developing ‘coaching confidence’ through working closely with National Centre staff and club teams across the country and is open for applications from Level 2 and Level 3 Swim Ireland qualified coaches.

The programme, which will run across a period of 40 weeks, will give coaches access to on-deck shadowing at National Centres along with designated Club Squads each month, online reflection and consultation sessions with Performance Department leaders and online education sessions with performance staff and special guest speakers who will discuss topics such as coaching focus, season planning, and challenges female coaches face at Performance level.

The aim of the programme is to provide guidance, support, and expertise to assist women to thrive in Head Coaching roles. The interactive online sessions will allow each participant to work and focus on their own development, while learning from others in the sporting world. The programme is limited to 10 places to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to fully engage and reach their full potential.

Candidates must be willing to commit to the full duration of the course and fully engage throughout. Each month, the programme will consist of one session per week: one practical on-deck element and three online sessions. The programme will begin on May 2nd, 2022, and run through to April 10th, 2023, with breaks for summer and Christmas. Further information on dates and programme content, including guest speakers, can be found below.

Places will be offered via an application process; the cost of the course is 100€ per participant. Funding is available to assist all successful applicants with their travel costs/overnight requirements (where applicable) during the programme to ensure that all coaches have the opportunity to attend all stages across the 40 weeks. If you are interested in this programme, please fill out an application form, and return to Sarah Taaffe via the details below by 5pm, Monday 25th April.
