Oliver Dingley takes 16th in 3m Springboard in Budapest

Rio 2016 finalist Oliver Dingley on Friday finished a tough 3m Springboard competition in 16^th position at the 35^th LEN European Aquatics Championships in Budapest.

The Irish Senior Record Holder in both 1m and 3m Springboard scored high in five of his six dives, but made an error on dive five that ultimately led to missing the final.

Dingley, who finished 17^th in the same competition at the FINA Diving World Cup last week, finished with a final score of 367.35, earning him 16^th in Europe.

Damian Ball, National Head Coach for Diving, said: "The men’s 3m featured a really strong field, with divers making the most of the limited competition opportunities ahead of the Olympic Games.

"Ollie was looking sharp and sitting in a really good position with just two dives to go.

"Unfortunately one small mistake can cost so much, but that is the nature of performance sport. We live and learn and now start preparing for the next challenge."

Clare Cryan will be Ireland’s last diver to compete at the LEN European Aquatics Championships when she lines up for the Women’s 3m Springboard event on Saturday morning.

Having finished 8^th in the 1m Springboard on Tuesday, with little preparation for that board, she will be hoping for a big performance in her main event to conclude Ireland’s diving in Budapest.

Ireland’s swimming schedule begins on Monday at the Duna Arena with Conor Ferguson and Darragh Greene expected in action in individual events and Ireland’s Olympic relay bid kicking off in the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relays.
