It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Seamus Mc Anee of the City of Derry SC. Like so many of us Seamus got involved in swimming when he took his children to the local club. Throughout his 47 years he held many roles ranging from teaching /coaching swimmers to the administration of the club, his most recent role was Secretary of the club.

Of course he always loved a challenge whether it was within the swimming pool or with the local authorities when there was a threat of pool closure. Throughout the 70's and 80's when times were difficult in Northern Ireland, his commitment and work ensured that the club not only survived but grew in stature and reputation, winning numerous Regional and National trophies and medals

Along with his daughters Linda and Jacqueline he organised the "Derry Masters" which attracted swimmers from throughout Ireland. Over the next 20 years the event grew from strength to strength, this of course was partially due to the famous "back to back social event " .

For over 30 years he organised an end of season trip to New Jersey USA for club swimmers and left them all with some great memories.

Still actively involved with club up to his recent illness he will be sadly missed by family, friends and the swimming community throughout Ireland.

To his family we offer our sincere condolences.
