Northern Ireland had two swimmers in Finals action at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this evening, where both Danielle Hill and Siomha Brady finished in seventh place in their respective events.
Brady was first up, making her Commonwealth Games debut in the S8 100m Backstroke Final. At just 16 years old, she touched in a personal best of 1:34.08 for her only event of the Games.
England’s Alice Tai swam an impressive 1:13.64 to take the gold in the final.
After an Irish Record of 25.15 in last night’s Semi-Final, Danielle Hill touched in 25.36 for seventh place overall in the 50m Freestyle Final.
Australia’s Emma McKeon won the Final in 23.99 picking up her third gold of these Games.
In the 50m Butterfly Semi-Final, Hill clocked a personal best of 26.65 to place fifth in her heat and ninth overall, she was just .03 off Mona McSharry’s Irish Record of 26.62. Hill will be the first reserve for tomorrow’s final.
Jack McMillan bowed out of the 100m Freestyle at the semi-finals after placing sixth in his heat, McMillan’s time of 49.69 was eleventh overall.
In action tomorrow, Victoria Catterson and Kaitlyn McCaw swim the 100m Freestyle Heats, while Grace Davison goes in the 200m Individual Medley Heats.
