Ireland’s Shane Ryan got his 2020 International Swimming League Campaign underway this morning with a new Irish Senior Record (short course) in the 100m Butterfly and a win in the 50m Backstroke.

Swimming for the Toronto Titan’s Ryan clocked 50.53 knocking almost a second off Brendan Hyland’s 2019 record of 51.33. The 26-year-old finished 7th in the race recording 2 points for the Titans.

An hour later Ryan was back in the pool for the 50m Backstroke where he added the full complement of points to his team’s tally after a joint first place finish with 2016 triple Olympic Champion Ryan Murphy of the LA Current. Ryan and Murphy both touching in 23.06.

Ryan finished day one as part of the Titans 4x100m Medley Relay Team who placed fourth.

Toronto Titans are in third place after the first day of Match 3 with 208.5 points while LA Current lead on 262.5. Day 2 starts at 4pm tomorrow (Sunday).
