Jordan Sloan has finished in sixth place in the 200m Freestyle Final on the second day of competition in Copenhagen.
An Irish Record swim of 1:43.26 secured Sloan third place going into this evening’s final in the Danish capital, but after a hectic week where he secured a qualification time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Bangor ahead of travelling to the European Championships, the 24-year-old posted a time of 1:44.12 in the final.
Speaking after the race, which was his first International Final, Sloan commented “I’m happy with it, obviously the time’s not as quick as I went this morning but I gave myself a chance, I went out after it and I was still in the mix at 150m, I was just a little bit tired over the last 50m; but for my first final I’ll take it and I’m happy with it.”
Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys took Gold in the event in 1:40.85, Aleksander Krasnykh claimed silver in 1:42.22 and Great Britain’s Duncan Scott the bronze medal in 1:43.07.
Sloan has a rest day tomorrow and returns to the pool on Saturday for the 100m Freestyle, an event in which he holds the Irish Record (48.13).
50m Breaststroke semi-finalists Mona McSharry and Alex Murphy return to the pool tomorrow for their favoured event, the 100m Breaststroke; Darragh Greene and Nicholas Quinn are also competing in Breaststroke while Calum Bain swims his first individual event of the week in the 50m Freestyle heats.
