St Vincents Women and Cathal Brugha Men claimed the 2022 Irish Senior Water Polo Cups at the UL Sport Arena in Limerick today.

St Vincents retained their Irish Senior Cup title by beating Drogheda 8-2 in this evening’s women’s Final. A closely fought first quarter ended 2-1 to St Vincents, the Dublin side extending the lead to 4-2 at half time.

Drogheda continued to fight hard to get back in the game in the third quarter but struggled to break down St Vincents, who continued to control the game right to the end.

The final score of 8-2 saw St Vincents win the Irish Senior Cup for the 10th year in a row; adding it to the National League Title they have already won this season.

Already 2022 League Champions, Cathal Brugha (Belfast) won the Men’s Cup, where they faced off against Corrib (Galway) in what was a repeat of the 2021 Irish Senior Cup Final.

Corrib raced into a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter before Cathal Brugha pulled a goal back to finish the quarter 2-1. Brugha then dominated the second quarter on what was turning out to be a real physical battle between both sides, leaving it 3-3 at half time.

The third quarter saw the teams trade goals, but it was the Belfast club who converted their chances and took an 8-6 lead going into the final quarter.

Corrib started the fourth quarter the stronger team pulling it back to level terms, and in a thrilling finale, it went right to the wire with the game level at 9-9 and 20 seconds on the clock. It was Cathal Brugha who converted the last chance of the game to win 10-9 and retain the Irish Senior Cup for 2022.
