April 29, 2022

In December 2021, the Government approved an additional investment programme to support the sports sector from the impact of COVID-19. This included a Sports Club Resilience Fund to support clubs who had been impacted throughout the pandemic. Swim Ireland was fortunate to receive a total of €300k from Sport Ireland to support the clubs under this scheme.

In February Swim Ireland devised and prepared a funding application process which was checked with Sport Ireland and released to clubs. Clubs were provided with support via the Clubs and Community team through phone calls and webinars, with the application process closing on Monday the 5th of March 2022.

In total we received applications from 48 clubs across our network of clubs in the Republic of Ireland. It was evident from the standard of applications that clubs spent considerable time in preparing detailed applications, educational training plans and supporting documentation.

We are pleased to say that we have concluded the extensive review process and we are happy to announce that we have awarded all 48 Clubs funding ranging from a total of €1500 up to €13k. It is great to see that the funding will go to support clubs across all disciplines from swimming, masters, water polo and open water. A full breakdown of allocations can be found in the table below.

Speaking on this announcement Swim Ireland Head of Clubs, Community and Competitions Adam Cox said: “Having seen the impact of COVID on clubs, in particular membership numbers, running costs and loss of experienced volunteers, I am excited to be able to help them get back on their feet. This funding will have a real impact and alleviate some of the pressures many of our clubs are facing”.

We are grateful to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Sport Ireland for this funding and are very appreciative to be in a situation to provide support to clubs to help them rebuild.”
