Retain & Retrain Scholarship Programme

May 25, 2021

We are delighted to announce this morning that 73 teenagers from 44 Swim Ireland clubs have been accepted into our new scholarship programme, funded by Sport Ireland's Retain and Retrain grant.

The purpose of this scholarship programme is to allow Swim Ireland club members aged 16-19 years to complete selected aquatic coaching courses, this education hopefully keeping them involved in their club and sport for longer.

This cohort has been heavily affected by the pandemic, with research showing that teenagers are most at risk of leaving aquatic clubs as a result of the long shut down of swimming pools. With funding and support from this scholarship, we aim to prevent that.

Applications closed on May 3 and we are delighted to be able to offer funding to a total of 73 applicants from 44 clubs, broken down as follows:

  • Level 1 Swimming Coach x 49
  • Level 2 Swimming Coach x 9
  • Level 1 Water Polo Coach x 14

Congratulations to the successful applicants, we look forward to welcoming you on to upcoming courses!
