Swim Ireland Partner with Cavan Sports Partnership and Cavan County Council for Exciting New Initiative

Swim Ireland, in conjunction with Cavan Sports Partnership and Cavan County Council, are delighted to jointly launch the ‘Get Cavan Swimming’ partnership and announce the creation of a Get Cavan Swimming Officer.

This partnership is part of a number of new participation initiatives being implemented as part of our new Strategic Plan (2022-2026) where we aim to deliver 100,000 participation opportunities through programmes and events. Our relationships with Local Sports Partnerships and Local Authorities will be imperative to deliver on this goal, and with a Get Ireland Swimming Officer in place in Dublin City, and the Cavan Officer in recruitment stage, we are confident this goal can be achieved.

This Get Cavan Swimming Officer will coordinate and implement the delivery of an integrated swimming programme in county Cavan working alongside partner agencies and community organisations to create opportunities for all people to have access to swimming. It is hoped that this partnership will help to fulfil the needs of the county where demand for swimming opportunities is at an all-time high and will promote swimming as a life skill to all, including those from non-traditional swimming backgrounds.

As part of this, a number of exciting initiatives are planned, including a partnership initiative with the Community Development Association at Arvagh’s Outdoor Pool as well as the introduction of a Swim Ireland Pop-Up-Pool to the county for a period of time. These participation projects, along with a comprehensive training and education programme, will enable greater access to both indoor and outdoor swimming and will pave the way for a healthier, more active Cavan.

Nadine McCormilla, Sports Coordinator with Cavan Sports Partnership, spoke of the exciting new partnership saying ‘We are beyond delighted to bring this initiative to the county. We want Cavan to be an inclusive county that provides opportunities for all and we believe this partnership is a promising step forward to enhance sport and activity participation for the whole community. A special thanks to Sport Ireland’s Covid Restart Grant, as well as funding from our partner agencies who made this opportunity possible’.

Swim Ireland Head of Participation Ashley Hunter added ‘We are delighted to be working with Cavan County Council and Cavan Sports Partnership on this exciting partnership. Swimming is a life-skill, a skill that it is vital for every child and can be used across our life cycle to stay active and healthy. The introduction of a Get Cavan Swimming Officer and the implementation of other initiatives are fantastic chances to offer more swimming opportunities and experiences to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds in the county.’
