Swim Ireland are proud to announce that we have lined up a series of education opportunities and initiatives to support the Royal Life Saving Society's Drowning Prevention Week for a second year!

Drowning Prevention Week (DPW) aims to equip everybody across the UK and Ireland with the skills and knowledge, to make the right decisions about water safety.

Swimming isn’t just a critical lifesaving skill, it’s a skill that opens up a lifetime of fun and adventure in and on the water.

Throughout 2020 and 2021 cohorts of young people have missed out on the opportunity to swim, leaving a dramatic gap in school swimming and water safety education.

Ireland's beautiful waterways should be places where everyone feels at ease, and can take pleasure from their surroundings, whatever their age, whatever their activity level.

So please get involved in DPW this year and help give our children the skills to enjoy a lifetime of fun in the water!

How can you help?

Downloading and sharing the RLSS's Drowning Prevention Week 2021 important messages amongst your family, friends and colleagues is the easiest and most powerful assistance you can give to the DPW campaign.

Raising awareness of how to enjoy the water safely could one day save a life.

Download the RLSS's resources here: Sharing Drowning Prevention Week | Royal Life Saving Society UK ( RLSS UK )

Everybody that shares the message and using the hashtags #drowningpreventionweek and #enjoywatersafely, and tagging @RLSSUK, will automatically be entered into their prize draw to win a Dryrobe. Why not share from multiple accounts and be entered into the competition multiple times!

You can also download and take part in additional online RLSS Water Safety Education initiatives, which includes a primary lesson for 5 – 10-year olds and a water safety toolkit called Lifesaver Lifechanger.

What's coming up at Swim Ireland?

Swim Ireland Education went all out during Drowning Prevention Week 2020 to offer brand new courses and qualifications that promote water safety awareness and help prevent drownings.

During DPW 2021, we are going up another notch and will be launching opportunities for people in Ireland to qualify as Beach Lifeguards, Open Water Lifeguards and Rookie Lifeguard Instructors.

We'll also be adding the RLSS's National Pool Manager Qualification and the National Pool Supervisor Qualifications to our offering and giving Swimming Teachers and Coaches the opportunity to earn their National Rescue Award.

And finally, alongside our education opportunities we will be launching a DPW competition asking you to get creative to share your key water safety message with us, to be in with a chance of winning a €325 voucher to spend at Swim Ireland Education.

Drowning is preventable. Even one drowning is one too many. Help us share the facts and help people across Ireland enjoy water safely
