Swim Ireland welcomes today’s announcement by Sport Ireland of the detailed allocation of the €2.5million COVID-19 Swimming Pool Grant Fund 2020 scheme, to 284 swimming pool operators across the country that have been affected by Covid-19 restrictions. The successful applicants will receive grants of between €5,000 and €14,000.
This €2.5m funding scheme was originally announced as part of the July Stimulus package, following representation made to the Department from Swim Ireland and Ireland Active on behalf of the sector, with the aim to support publicly accessible swimming pools in response to the challenge of the costs associated with their running.
The fund seeks to support the huge effort of pool operators to re-open, to sustain the high operational costs whilst closed and to support participation in the sport of swimming. Swim Ireland had been working closely with Ireland Active, and Sport Ireland to support the administration of the grant process and it is great to see these funds now being allocated.
We would like to thank the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media, Catherine Martin TD and Minister of State for Sport and the Gaeltacht, Jack Chambers TD, the Department of Sport and Sport Ireland for their support in this regard.
The sector is still facing a very challenging time and we will continue to work with our partners to support the survival of the sector.
e hope to see the return of swimming lessons soon which are a massive income support to the Industry and which are so important to give Irish people the opportunity to acquire the important life skill of learning to swim.
